After a tough loss to New England during the Divisional 2013 playoffs, the people of Houston expected nothing short of a Super Bowl run for the succeeding season. Little did they know, that the only thing coming was a train wreck. Schaub, a mediocre quarterback riding on the shoulders of a good running game and excellent defense, finally got exposed. It proved to be too much. Game after game, interception after interception, it was clear that Schaub was losing confidence, with the entire team to follow suit. The loss against the Seahawks where Schaub was in position to close the game, yet threw a pick-six to Richard Sherman to ensure the Seahawks’ victory, was the turning point. The fans, and team knew that this season would not be like the previous two. With Arian Foster out and our defense deteriorating, this season was quickly out of reach. Although, Case Keenum did spark some excitement back up, he ultimately never won us a game. The Texans ended 2-14 and we knew change was coming. It did come, but it could be bigger.
With Bill O’Brien at the helm I’m a lot more confident that we will at least make some noise in the AFC South. Bill looks a guy that will work you and make you a winner. Unlike the more laid back Kubiak. But his attitude alone won’t win us championships, players will. This team and city need some excitement, someone who has that “it” factor. Someone that wants nothing but to win. That someone is named Johnny Manziel.
Johnny Manziel is box-office. Not only will he bring relevance back to this franchise, but there is no doubt in my mind that he will win us some games as well. Yeah, he can be reckless. But he can only get better. He has every intangible that you could want out of a player. He wants to prove himself worthy of that #1 pick. He wants to win. He needs to win. He WILL win. Because losing is something that is not in his nature. Really, the only risk I see is him getting injured. He hasn’t missed a game due to injury, but how long until he does? How long until he becomes the next Michael Vick or RG3? He’s proven that he can win games by staying in the pocket. And if his pro-day is any indication, he’s getting even better at it. With O’Brien being the “quarterback guy” I can’t see a scenario where he DOESN’T improve from the pocket.
Johnny Manziel will bring out the best of every single player in that Texans locker room. They’ll want to play for him and he’ll want to play for them. He has that special power to take over a game and carry his team to victory. In Houston, all the pieces are set, we just someone to put them together.
